Coffee Sustainability Program participants come from various backgrounds in the coffee industry and tend to be full-time professionals who wish to 1.) incorporate more sustainability principles or projects into their work, and/or 2.) transition into a more sustainability-focused job role in the coffee industry.
 
In this course, learners dive more deeply into environmental sustainability in the coffee industry. Course participants examine key concepts and trends in climate-smart agriculture and adaptation, develop their understanding of carbon footprint measurement and mitigation strategies, and explore the interconnections between various environmental factors and the communities that depend on those resources.
 
During this course, students will learn:
1. REVIEW OF KEY CONCEPTS—CLIMATE AND COFFEE
2. CLIMATE-SMART AGRICULTURE
3. WATER, FORESTS, AND BIODIVERSITY
4. RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, AND PLANT BREEDING INNOVATION
5. CARBON FOOTPRINT AND MITIGATION
6. CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND WASTE REDUCTION
7. DUE DILIGENCE AND REPORTING IN ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
8. STRATEGIES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
 
In order to obtain the Foundation certificate, students must pass the online written test offered by SCA with at least 70% score.
